Figma
Travel Memoirs is an all-in-one travel documentation tool that creates meaningful trip summaries. The platform includes an itinerary builder and research compiler for trip planning. Its highlight feature is the Travel Memoir output, which uses AI to transform the user's travel documentation (photos, videos, tickets, maps, reviews, journal entries, etc.) into timeline, map, and table views.

PROBLEM
Many young people don’t physically scrapbook or compile photo albums these days, and as a result find it hard to commemorate their travel experiences.
Target Audience: Young people (18-30 years old) who travel and have a good grasp of technology.
USER RESEARCH
I interviewed 10 people and analyzed their responses to better understand the problem, target audience, and their needs. I categorized consistent needs and pain points from the transcripts, then used this data to create affinity diagrams, insights and need statements, and a user persona.
RESEARCH FINDINGS
It turns out many young people like the idea of scrapbooking, and even those who don't still want a meaningful way to look back on their travel experiences. Based on my user research, I developed a few "How Might We" questions to guide me toward the most optimal solution:

DESIGN RESEARCH
I gathered images and websites that matched the look and feel I wanted for my platform.
LOW-FI WIREFRAMING
After brainstorming and mapping out my solution, I started low-fidelity wireframing.
Outlined a potential user-input process for the platform. Though not my primary focus, it informed realistic platform output possibilities.

USER TESTING
I conducted user testing sessions throughout the design process to ensure my solution was helpful. This helped me identify pain points in both the low-fi and hi-fi stages.
FINAL DESIGNS
STYLE 1: CONTROLLED COLLAGE (DEFAULT)
The user has the choice between 3 different styles for their Travel Memoirs. The default, Controlled Collage, is a good middle ground between the more extreme Minimalist Grid and Handcrafted Styles. It combines
the collage-like feel of scrapbooking with bold, easy-to-read typography. Watch the video walkthrough at the top of the page or view the Figma prototype here.
STYLE 2: HANDCRAFTED
The Handcrafted style embraces a maximalist approach with my handwritten type and a loose-leaf paper texture, mimicking physical scrapbooking. Interactions can be viewed on the 'Handcrafted' Figma prototype.
STYLE 3: MINIMALIST GRID
The Minimalist Grid style dials everything back a little. It puts everything onto a grid, resulting in a clean viewing experience. Interactions can be viewed on the 'Minimalist Grid' Figma prototype.
SHARING OPTIONS
Users can share their Travel Memoirs via a custom link for a specific trip or their entire collection. The link allows others to interact with the various views (timeline, map, and table). They can view other trips, log in to create their own Travel Memoirs, or visit the About page to learn more about the platform.
Users can also download their timeline formatted for social media. For a physical keepsake, they can choose an accordion-fold or postcard layout for printing.
Users can share their travel memoirs on social media too!
